Our fund raiser of the year was held on June 11 in conjunction with the Mexico trail riders. We were fortunate in having a excellent day weather wise and a good turnout. Chickens were sold out and the raffles were decent. The 2 main items we raffled were a CVA muzzleloader which was won by Tim Searles and the 50/50 won by Don Fenske. A special thank you to those members who helped. With a membership of close to 300 individuals it was disappointing to only have 8 club members helping. The trail riders did more than their share in staffing as well as collecting donations for the bucket raffles. If we are working with another group it is going to require more participation from our membership. In a future meeting we will be suggesting changes in our membership process. If you wish to have any input our next meeting will be on July 11 or you can contact any officer or board member with suggestions.
Sadly because of lack of participation our trap and skeet program is being cancelled. Grover has been present on Wednesday’s from 3:30 on with NO ONE showing up. The Saturday session had similar results. Looking at the situation we realize that a box of shells cost around $12-$14. If you shoot 2 rounds that’s $28 in shells. And $4.00 a round .With gas at about $5.00 a gallon driving any distance adds another $ 10-$20 . So a night of trap or skeet can easily be $50.00 and no idea how to make it any more reasonable, if that is the reason no one has participated. Thanks to Grover for his efforts and he will be happy to set up a session with any group just call him at 315-298-3375.
We will be holding 3 session of the 4-H shooting sports on the 20th, 27th of July and the 3rd of August. Registration is through Cooperative extension office in Mexico. Phone 315-963-7286. There will also be 2 additional sessions of Muzzleloading at Lock , Stock & Barrel club on county Route 6 August 10 and 17. All equipment is provided and there are scholarships offered by the Oswego County Federation to offset the cost for those who need assistance. This program is open to youth 12-17. Classes are held from 6Pm to 8 PM on Wednesdays.
Campus security used our facility in May and again on the 20th of June. They also made 2 donations to the chicken BBQ. A handmade holster and a bullet holder as well as a $100.00 gift certificate for Bass pro, their donations was much appreciated.
We are still NOT offering any hunter Ed. Classes, gun or bow, even though the state has altered some of its restriction regarding Covid protocol. I do not want our instructors to be liable for any situation that may arise. If this changes it will be posted on our website.
Thanks to the members who are mowing and keeping the club property looking good.
